Who We Are
Ric Bowser | Founder
Creating Family began as Family Counseling Ministries (FCM) in 2003, created out of Ric’s experiences in a number of different systems. It began in the system called Church. Son of a Baptist minister, Ric eventually pursued studies in seminary as well as counseling psychology and was ordained in the Baptist church. Next came a life changing experience with the Holy Spirit and a move to a charismatic Episcopal church where events led to his ordination in the Anglican community. Ric’s work, however, took him outside the church walls to the secular systems of Government & Criminal Justice. For five years, he worked in social services as a child welfare investigator as well as ten years as a university instructor in the adult prison system.
These experiences led to the remedial pastoral counseling side, integrating society and the church. Working first in private counseling agencies, Ric decided to create his own brand of family ministry with the establishment of FCM. During this time with FCM, he wrote two books (The Fox In the Chicken Coop [FICC] and Searching for Home [SFH]), hosted inner-healing seminars, and ministered internationally in Kharkov, Ukraine. In the past few years, Ric has been asked to be involved in two other systems: Politics and a Non-Profit Foundation.
Yet, the most important system of all is where Ric’s heart lies: the Family system. Val, Ric’s wife of fifty plus years has been the heart and soul of FCM, scheduling, bookkeeping, gate keeping, loving and supporting. And above all, keeping watch over three adult children, their spouses, and a total of eleven grandchildren. Ric is currently in the process of writing book number three and making the concepts of FICC & SFH available on line.

Ric’s book, The Fox in the Chicken Coop, explains in common sense language the power of emotions and expectations to shape our beliefs, attitudes, and consequent behavior. It begins with the foundational relationship we have with our parents and progresses through life’s “high-stakes” relationships, including those we have with our teachers, bosses, spouses, children and God Himself.
